Are you ready for a Sew Along? I am. The Split Pouch Sew Along is here, and I’m hoping you’ll join me.
With the holidays quickly approaching, I thought this could be *perfect* timing to get a head start on some handmade gifts while also having fun and giving myself a reason to sew. (Does that make this a three-for-one?)
One thing that I love about these little pouches is how quickly they can come together. They are both satisfying and a practical make. I figure that in sewing a little each week over the next several weeks I will have several gifts that I can check off my list. Yay for that!
How will the Split Pouch Sew Along Work?
Over the next 5 weeks, I’ll be making some Split Pouches and sharing them here, as well as on my Instagram and YouTube accounts. The blog will be the hub where you’ll find links to everything I’ve shared.
To join in, simply make some Split Pouches with me! I like to keep things pretty simple and low-key/low-stress. Sewing should always be fun. Let’s cheer each other on!
Inspiration to get Started?
Looking for some inspiration to get started? Luckily we already have a few places to look. You can see all of my blog posts so far by looking here. There’s also #CFSplitPouch and my Split Pouch board on Pinterest.
You have so many ways to think about using color, not only through the variety of sizes if making a set, but also through the zipper and snap choices. Exploring that is a great way to play with color.
You can also consider the stabilizer options. Two of my favorites that I’ve highlighted in the pattern are Soft and Stable vs a woven fusible like Pellon SF101.
Some other things that I’m thinking about and will explore in the coming weeks: waxed canvas, scrappy patchwork, novel fabric, adding a label, contrasting zipper pulls/zipper tape, embroidery and personalization, fussy cutting, and/or what fun goodies to fill the pouch with.
Plus, I know I’ll continue to be inspired by the things you are all coming up with and sharing too.

Thanks, Ellen! I found some of these zippers at Stitch Supply Co. I’ve linked them in the blog post for Week 2. Hope that helps!

What a cute and different pouch pattern.
