Today is a big day. It’s finally time to leave for Quilt Market in Pittsburgh. Preparing for Market is always pretty consuming, and this one hasn’t been too much different. I look forward to the show–it always is so much fun–even if I don’t always get away from my booth very often.
I’m not gonna lie, the prep can be a bit terrifying. Getting ready for any show like this involves a ton of details, and for me, it’s also the time when I release new stuff. For this show, I’ve got 2 new patterns that I’ve been working on, and then we are also finally going to be releasing my new book, Savor Each Stitch. (It’s so weird to say that!)
Books are the newest of territory for me, and this one feels especially personal. I guess it should, because it totally is–all of the photography was shot hyper-locally (that cover shot above…um, yeah, that’s in my bedroom…), and the story itself is 100% what I think about when I think about quilting. I love making, and it was important for me to highlight how I approach the design process with my projects so that you can do the same.
Plus, it’s been a long time in the making.
So, we’ll see. I’ll talk more about all of that soon.
For now, I just wanted to share a brand-new event coming up that we very recently snuck onto the calendar. I’ve been so hectic with Market, that I haven’t been able to properly announce it yet, so now I am. I’ll be teaching from one of the projects in my new book (yes, this is a majorly early sneak preview of the book) in just a few weeks at Purl Soho!
Purl, is an amazing shop that I’ve always admired even though I’ve never actually been there. (How big of a dork does that make me?) So personally, I’m thrilled to finally get a chance to be there and especially to teach. They feature such beautiful and inspiring projects, the shop looks stunning, and I love following their blog and IG feeds. (In fact, just days ago I dropped everything to make something they had a tutorial for after seeing it on their IG…see pics below).
I’m thrilled that my publisher, Lucky Spool Media, is letting us do this super early preview of the book–it won’t otherwise be out until July. They are also giving me a limited number of copies available after the class to sign and sell, so it should be a really fun time. The project from the book that we’ll be working on is called Aerial Grove. It’s one of the first projects that I conceived of when thinking about the book, and a design idea that I’ve had in the back of my head for awhile. I’m an aerial-view fan (obviously), and this is a take off from that mixed with a ton of color play, some improv, needle-turn, and much more. In the class, we’ll dive into technical stuff, but also focus heavily on color work and creating color stories–things that I love love love…
For anyone in NYC, I think there are some spots available, but the class size is very limited. It’ll be very hands-on, and I’m so excited to be able to work very closely with you on the project. The class is Sunday, June 1 from 2-5pm, contact the wonderful folks at Purl for signing up.
Oh, and here’s the project from their IG blog last week that I couldn’t resist…
I may or may not have made 2 of them…
And I may or may not be wearing both in Pittsburgh…
be on the look out.
