This has been a WIP for longer than I’d like to admit, but my scrappy blue Slash quilt (using my Slash pattern) is finally finished!
Over the last couple of months I made an effort to finish up some projects that had been hanging around the studio. If records are correct, this goes back to at least August 2022…

Fabric Choices
I remember cutting this one out along with this one and this one in pretty short order. That’s a great thing about my Slash project–it’s quickly satisfying. You can use just two fabrics or many, and if you are using the acrylic templates you quickly get a sense for where the project is going. I love it.
This one started with a blue palette. I wanted it to be kinda scrappy. As I pulled fabrics and started to cut, I saw an opportunity to transition the fabrics from the center outward. I liked the harmony and story created by the color and value transition from light fabrics in the center to more blue choices at the edge.
Fabrics are mostly from my Collection CF range, and the background is Essex Linen in Teal. My few previous Slash quilts have darker motifs and lighter backgrounds, so I flipped the script on this one. The darker background fabric makes the accent fabrics really pop.
Hand Quilting
Hand quilting is always fun, especially when you have good colors to choose from. Here’s my pull. A lot of time passed from my thread pull to when I finished the quilt. It was great having the palette ready for me when I was ready to do it. I pulled colors as I wished. It was so relaxing and satisfying.
There she is! My scrappy blue slash quilt is finished, and I have gifted it to a friend. It might be helpful to add that I love my past self for prepping the binding after I finished the quilt top. It was ready to go these few years later when I was finally ready to put it on.
I love ringing in the New Year with some finishes. It is encouraging and motivates me to finish up other projects that have been lingering.

Thanks for posting. The quilt turned out well, but then all of your things do. It’s funny how you admitted to having unfinished work. It’s weird because it seems like you are always quilting or creating something even your knitting projects (like major sweaters) and complete these projects. I wonder why some things are put to the side and other projects aren’t? It’s a general overall question for anyone with projects. Like some people are quick at getting some projects done while others aren’t as quick, and some projects are set aside (why). Just wondering. And now as I get older, I think there is more to this story rather just the old standby about not having time etc. Anyway, Happy New Year.

Yes, it’s an interesting thing, Rebeca! I’m sure it could be a bunch of things, which is why it’s maybe easiest to say that life got in the way. Other projects take our attention, maybe burnout happens, or it could be that we’re waiting for the right spark of inspiration to figure out the next steps. Life–and mainly other projects–got in the way with this for me. It was great having a reason to finish it. 🙂

Thanks for replying. Right. I think it is just easier to say life got in the way because it did “like something” in life etc… at the end that is all that happened. Super nice quilt! I just LOVE Essex and your fabric always..I have a stash I bought and working on one of your pillow patterns with it. thanks.
