will work for sweets.

February 20, 2012 by carolyn friedlander 3 Comments

…at least for my sister anyway.

She was in town over the weekend, giving me a good reason to finish up a purse I’d started for her a few weeks ago. It also didn’t hurt that she arrived bearing a hearty offering of my favorite candy (these sour gummy things found only at the Fresh Market, which sadly is not nearby). She knows how my sweet tooth rages.

It all started with some not-so-subtle hint dropping after seeing this bag that I made recently for myself.

My bag was adapted from a pattern in the winter issue of Stitch. I liked the rounded shape, but deviated from there. I left the outside panels plain to showcase this pretty African print, added some cording for contrast, and made other changes to the handles and interior.

My sister really liked the African fabric, but wanted a cross-body style bag. Luckily, I’d been eyeing this one already.

I made hers with a similar print and used some heavier navy fabric for the contrast. (I think the navy was a left-over from a pair of shorts that I’d made.) Either way, both fabrics worked great, and I’m pleased with how it all worked out.

And on the inside, a classy, cotton print–with a stamped label, of course.

She’s happy, and so is my sweet tooth. Nice doing business with you, sister.

How sweet to make a bag for your sister! It’s lovely! I especially like the personal touch of the stamped label. And not a bad trade for some gummies!

I love your bags! Especially love the rounded bottom of your sister’s. Your attention to detail is amazing. Congratulations on the birth of your blog – I look forward to keeping up with you.
