With 6 weeks to go until the next election here in the US, I thought I’d put together something fun for you. Here’s VOTE, a free mini quilt pattern that I made using a few blocks from my larger Alphabet pattern.
The Project
VOTE is a 15″ x 15″ mini quilt that can help get you in the spirit. Even if you don’t have an election coming up, VOTE is a great sentiment and reminder to celebrate choices and taking positive action.
This cutie of a project finishes as a 15″ x 15″ mini quilt, but feel free to adjust the number of blocks, the borders, etc to suit your creative desires. I think this could also be a neat pillow sham, don’t you think?
Here, I went scrappy and used a bunch of different fabrics from my scrap bins. I loved picking out a different pairing of fabrics for each block. Of course, you could be more specific in your approach. It would look super clean and striking to use the same fabrics for the letters and block backgrounds. As another idea, you could use color to represent causes you are most excited to celebrate and champion.
The quilting is an all-over grid in a bright, nearly-florescent thread. I’m loving the brightness and texture it adds.
Yay, let’s celebrate voting!
VOTE
Check out Vote.org for all things voting. It’s a non-partisan, non-profit organization that helps you register to vote, check to see if you are registered vote, see deadlines and so much more. Many states have deadlines to register, so skip to it if you are unsure about the rules in your state! The election is Nov 5, but you can also vote early and/or by mail if you’d like. I’m usually an early voter, and I love having all the options.

This VOTE project is excerpted from my Alphabet pattern, which can be found here. Check it out for the full letter set in three sizes and an (optional) video course that walks you through the entire making process.

Thank you for the pattern — and more importantly, the advocacy for VOTING! Each and every voice is important to a democracy. Think of the millions all over the world who are denied the opportunity or even the right to have a say in the policies and people who govern their countries and societies. We don’t have to agree – in fact that’s the whole point of voting! Thanks Carolyn, hope you are well! melissa

Hi Carolyn. I wanted to thank you for your free pattern. I appreciate how important this message is for your country and for democracy in today’s world. I live in Canada and I made the pattern for a different context. We held our first Quilt Show since 2018 this weekend. I chose to make your pattern to encourage attendees to vote for their viewer’s choice. Our Guild members also were encouraged in a separate vote to make their choices for “Peer Recognition”. I would love to send you a photo of the piece. Is there an address I can send it to?
