New Collection CF colors!

April 24, 2020 by carolyn friedlander 19 Comments

Collection CF has been a dream project in many ways. Getting a chance to revisit favorite prints from over the years and reimagine them in new ways and with new colors has been something special for sure. It’s also been a delight to see all that you’ve been making with them. That said, I have some good news to share, starting in July there will be 15 new Collection CF colors!

Color

To decide on which colors to add, I do what I always do, which is to lay everything out and look for new opportunities not yet explored.

What ended up is an exciting and useful mix of fabrics from navy, blue and some other rich, deep shades, to some enticing new low-volume pieces to some terracotta and a very vibrant orange. (There’s nothing better than a good orange in my opinion!)

Palettes

With these new pieces came an opportunity to reconceive all of it into two new palettes–colorful and neutral. These are the distinctions with the new precut options (FQs, 10″/5″ squares, 2 1/2″ strips, etc), and you’re also welcome to use it as inspiration to plan out new projects on your own.

I looked at dividing the group in many different ways, but this was my favorite. It captures the most diverse way to see the group, and each palette offers a full value assortment from light to dark.

Projects

With new fabric comes new projects that I can finally share with you. I’ll have more specifics in the coming weeks, but for now, here’s a look.

I’ve been working on a new appliqué project, called Clay, there’s a really fun sewing-themed project, Spools, and I’ve taken this release as a chance to revisit one of my first patterns, Grove. These three projects represent as diverse a way of mixing the fabrics as they do for different ways of working. We have relaxing, slow sewing in Clay (de-stressing at its finest!), graphic and precise foundation-paper piecing with Grove (satisfying in a very different way), and a colorful, conventionally pieced (and addictive!) project in Spools.

With everything that is crazy, unfamiliar and scary going on in the world right now, I have to say that these projects have all brought a lot of joy to me while working on them. I hope they can do the same for you too.

PS. The digital version of my Spools pattern is now live, and the print version will be shipping within the next few weeks. If you’d like to get a head start on some colorful sewing before I do an official post about it next week, you can head over here to grab yourself a copy.

Ah! Lovely! I have to say, ever since Architextures hit the scene, your collections have been my absolute favorite. I’m so glad to see the older prints coming back in different combinations. Everything has always played together well, and it’s great to be able to keep expanding that.

I’m excited! The first CF collection is fabulous! And I’ve been looking to refresh my sewing room a bit (seems I’m spending some extra time in there right now) – and the little spools quilt will be a fun addition 🙂

Your quilt , Clay, is so, beautiful I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. It is a beautiful work of art–abstract, which I love. Hopefully, your quilts will be exhibited in a museum. I attended one of the Houston Quilt Festivals and they exhibited some of your work and it truly was wonderful. And just my luck I forgot my camera and cell phone.
