A couple of years ago, I got ambitious and made drawstring pouches as gift wrap. At the time I didn’t want to share them so they’d be a secret, but now is the perfect time since many of us are in the gifting mode.
These were FUN to make. They did require some time and planning, but it wasn’t bad at all. I batched out each of the steps and completed them in bits of time over a few days.
I used the Lined Drawstring Bag pattern by Jeni Baker, who in my mind is queen of the Drawstring Pouch. Jeni has so many different sizes included in the pattern, and she’s also blogged about variations for all kinds of stuff. I love the idea that they elevate the gift a bit, while adding in a bonus item for the recipient to use. These are the Project Bag size in the pattern.
One of the greatest parts of this project is picking out the fabrics and pairings for each recipient. Who doesn’t like picking out fabric? This is also a project that justifies my ribbon stash–another exciting consideration to pair with the fabrics as well!
These would be great for sewn-in labels, but I just created my own by using pieces of fabric from the selvage. I thought of it more as a colorful touch than anything else.
Pattern: Lined Drawstring Bag by Jeni baker
Fabrics: I used fabrics from many of my collections including Jetty, Instead and Collection CF.

These are great! I usually dig into my whimsical fabric stash but these make me want to sew some classy versions. I’ve used Jeni’s pattern for gift bags the last few years and even my nephew is happy to get them. I just bought pom pom trim to try one of her latest variations from her blog.
