Welcome! I am happy to be today’s stop on the Modern Baby Blog tour. I had such a great time getting involved with this project.
My contribution was this one.
Tiny, textured trees.
Some of my quilts start out in one place, go through some pretty serious evolution, and end up as something totally different. Then there are other quilts–like this one–that stay true to the original sketch. I’m always surprised either way.
Here’s my original sketch.
The colors in the scan come across a little (/a lot) on the yellow side, but all along I really liked the idea of a soft, minty green + lime palette.
Like all of my other current patterns, it’s a paper piecing project. I just love being able to dive into a project without too much prep work.
I also had fun incorporating a variety of substrates, most all of which are of the Robert Kaufman variety–corduroy, linen, essex, and radiance. The sashing is all corduroy and so soft.
In using a solid on the back, the design got carried over. I love those 2-fers.
Even though I have no babies, I do like to make a baby quilt. The size isn’t intimidating, and I don’t feel the need to go gender specific or pastel.
Some of my friends are just starting to have babies, and lately I’ve been on a bit of a baby shower circuit. What I’ve noticed are more and more handmade goodies at the showers, which is thrilling. It’s always the handmade stuff that to gets held up the longest and passed around the most. There’s just something special about handmade.
Win yourself an e-copy of this great new book! Just leave a comment in this post about anything you deem relevant by May 1st. I’ll pick a name at random for the prize. Make sure to stop by all the other tour stops to increase your odds of winning. Everyone will be giving one away, so you’ve got several chances to win.

Carolyn, your trees are beautiful!! I could see this quilt on my family room wall, and my babies are all grown up!!!
I really like the tight quilting lines by the trees! I can piece well, but the quilting is still a little scary. I’m working on “straight” lines, I’m going to have to try some of the tighter lines. It looks so great! Thanks for the inspiration!
Wow! I love your quilt and you are right the back is just as pretty. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of the book.
That is a beautiful quilt. I love the bare trees in the winter and have seen many quilts that I just love. The lighter colors of your quilt are wonderful. I have many friends who are having grandchildren and have been making many baby quilts lately so this book would be wonderful. thanks for showing your quilt.
This pattern is fabulous! I’d love to make this for my niece who is expecting her first baby!
I love your sense of color. And the mini iron tip. Thanks.
this may be my favorite quilt of yours yet!!, and I can relate to the awesome feeling of handmade gifts at baby showers! ooohs and aaahs are sometimes the best gratification!
Great artistic creation of trees for a quilt idea. Luv them!
Your tree quilt is so beautiful ! I have made several baby quilts in the last few months for gifts and everyone seems to appreciate a present with a personal touch.
I don’t have any babies either but I LOVE making baby quilts. They are my go to project when I want to make something fun! Any time I need a baby gift, I’m ready.
I’ve been noticing that same trend at baby showers as if late. Lots of lovely knitted things…makes me want to have another one! 🙂
LOVE this quilt – the pastel green is so soothing. Excellent work!
What a cute pattern! Several of my friends are having babies so I am really excited about this new book!
I love your “tree” quilt. And I cannot wait to incorporate various textures/fabrics. What a great look.
Fresh and minimal, but the quilting totally makes it!
I love your little trees! Thanks for the chance to win!
I’m expecting in August so I am in a creating frenzy. Would love to win this book!
My daughter is expecting and due in August. I find myself thinking that I want this little girl to have lots of handmade love surrounding her. I need to get busy.
I love this quilt. It is the light trees against the pale green colors. It just looks so soft and graceful. What a fresh idea!
Love Love Love the trees. Did I say I Love the trees. This is so awesome.
Thanks for the chance to win this book.
Your tree baby quilt caught my eye immediately when the email first came out from Martingale about this blog tour and give away. I love the modern look, thanks so much for your tips about using corduroy. Love this blog tour and give away. Much thanks.
I absolutely love how the quilting carries the design onto the back of the quilt. So great! Thanks for the giveaway!
What a beautiful quilt! Such a great idea to use all the textures. And the 2-fer makes it perfect!
I think I love this one the best – not too baby-ish but more artsy and could be adapted to many color choices. Also love that you said you used lots of different fabrics which I think is great! thanks
Love the trees that grow as quickly as babies do. Hoping to win a copy of Modern Baby and making a few of the patterns. Baby quilts are my favorite – size, bright colors, happy and hopeful.

Your little trees look great! I especially like the textures in the quilt and your background quilting.
i love the little tree quilt
all that quilting is amazing , I can’t even imagine how much time it took!
Your quilt is gorgeous, especially the quilting around the trees. I like the trapunto look. Good work! I too like to make smaller baby quilts, as can take the time to embellish since isn’t some huge queen-sized bed quilt. Thanks for the giveaway chance.
Hi – I love the little trees for the little quilt. The actual quilting is awesome –
with the back amazing. I am sure you are thrilled with the outcome. I would just love this book – I know I would use it and use it. Thanks for the chance and blessings to you!!
lovely quilt! so different. I haven’t made a baby quilt for a while but this blog tour makes me want to make some… Thanks for the inspiration
Yes, handmade is so special. I love your tree quilt and how you designed the colors. I’m inspired that you used other unusual fabrics especially the corduroy. You are an impressive quilter and I like the way each block can highlight different quilting stitches.
You’re so right…everyone is having babies! So glad handmade gifts are becoming popular again.
I agree that handmade always seems more special, and is so nice because it can be customized for each person! Thanks for a chance at winning and great job on your quilt!
I SOOO love your quilt, from the colors, the trees, the cordory, to the wonderful quilting, to the back!!! That is one that I’d love to do: it looks so calming and pretty!!
love trees and your babt quilt! your quilting is marvelous! this is a delightful blog hop … it is refreshing to see all these new baby patterns!
I’d say these are “family” trees, as they might celebrate a couple becoming a family.
Wow, I love your quilt. I would have never thought of corderoy ( oh well, no spell check here) . It is super. I am a plant lover and your trees are dyno. Also, showing the back (photos great) made me realize what wonderful expressions I have been missing. Thanks for taking the time to do such great work and making sure we understand the process.
This would be fun!
You know the quilt you did with the trees is gorgeous. The colors are soothing and can easily be for a baby. A little bird could sit on a branch. Beautiful.
I am honing my paper piecing skills and this pattern would give me yet another opportunity for practice with the added benefit of gifting it to someone special.
love the trees!
I just found out today that I am going to be an aunt today! I would love a copy of the book for some inspiration for some new quilts.
I love paper piecing and I love your quilt! It is a very versatile pattern. I make quilts as gifts often for friends having babies!
Little quilts are fun. They provide lots of opportunity to try out new color combinations, quilting designs, etc. And I have a chance to actually get them completed! The tree design is great. Thanks for giving us a chance to win the book.
This is such a pretty quilt – I really must learn to paper piece!
Stunning Quilt! Love the quilting on this, it’s over the top great. Jane
Love the tiny trees ~ I love paper piecing and need to make this quilt!
thanks for the wonderful giveaway!
I’ve noticed the same trend with the handmade gifts. I just hope it doesn’t start turning into a big competition, you know?
I know I appreciate my handmade gifts the most, and I never forget who gave them to me! I can’t tell you how many adorable baby outfits I have and I’ve got no idea where they came from! 😉
The trees are so pretty and your quilting is incredible! Thanks for the giveaway!
i like this quilt thanks for the giveaway
Your tree quilt is fabulous – so many options for color to make each version distinct. For an older child or a wall quilt, a few button “apples” would add a pop of color.
Your quilt is BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for the chance to win.
I love, love, love this quilt and can’t wait to make it for one of the many people in my life who are having babies right now. Thank you for this beautiful, non-traditional pattern.
We became grandparents for the first time 2 years ago today, and now we have another new grandson-he needs a quilt! I am sure this book would help me out there!
I love your quilt. The quilting does make it look reverseable.
i kinda met you on that baby shower circuit……keir’s. i made the really amateur quilt, but with my little ones and not really knowing how to quilt, it works! love your quilts and fabrics. can’t wait to get me hands on them and create something special!
I agree about baby quilts! My “baby” is ten, but I still love making baby quilts. Something about the size lends itself to creative design and fun palettes.
I have two grandsons getting married this summer so I’m hoping in a couple of years I will need to make some baby quilts, they are so much fun to make..
I think your quilt is beautiful; I’d like to make a slightly smaller version to hang on our living room wall.
I really like seeing the detail on your quilting. I am generally doing straight line quilting with a walking foot on baby quilts, and this one really works. Great pattern.
Your quilt is stunning! The repetition of the blocks, the setting, the quilting – just fabulous!
Just an amazing quilt!!! The quilting just makes it!!!
Haven’t been to a shower in years!!!! My DIL decided against having one but my grand daughetr gets a new quilt every Christmas so far:)
I luv your quilt. I’d really like to make it into a wall hanging.
